Set within the Colville National Forest in the Selkirk Mountains of northeastern Washington, ten miles east of Chewelah and about 50 miles north of Spokane, 49 Degrees North Mountain Resort takes its name from the 49th parallel that forms the US-Canada border just to the north. This is one of the largest ski areas in Washington State, spanning 2,325 acres of skiable terrain across two peaks, Chewelah Peak and Angel Peak. From a base of 3,923 feet to a summit of 5,774 feet on Chewelah Mountain, the resort delivers a 1,851-foot vertical drop, with 82 marked runs served by 6 chairlifts including a high-speed detachable quad. The predominantly north-facing slopes hold cold, dry, high-quality snow all season, with an average of roughly 300 inches of annual snowfall. The addition of the East Basin, with 12 cut runs and hundreds of acres of gladed terrain, effectively doubled the resort's skiable footprint and cemented its reputation for legendary glades. Advanced and expert skiers are drawn to the black and double-black steeps and glades on Chewelah Peak, where lower visitation means fresh powder holds for days after a storm and natural mogul fields form on the ungroomed pitches. Two terrain parks, including the standout Chair 2 park known for its length and creative feature progression, serve freestyle riders, and a Nordic center adds groomed cross-country and snowshoe trails.
