Set in the Boyne Valley near Boyne Falls in Northern Michigan, roughly 250 miles north of Detroit, Boyne Mountain Resort has one of the great origin stories in American skiing. In 1948, Everett Kircher, Jim Christianson, and John Norton purchased a steep hillside from Michigan Senator William Pierson for a single dollar. Kircher then bought the first chairlift ever built, constructed in 1936 for Sun Valley, Idaho, moved it to Michigan, and opened for skiing. Parts of that historic lift remain in service today. From a base of 719 feet to a summit of roughly 1,150 feet, Boyne delivers a 500-foot vertical drop across 415 skiable acres, with 60-plus runs served by ten lifts including the eight-passenger Disciples 8 high-speed chairlift. Snowmaking covers 90% of the resort, fitting for a mountain that was among the first in the world to manufacture snow. This handcrafted map captures every trail in beautiful layered wood relief.
