Ski Butternut Trail Map - Layered Wood Wall Art
by Mountaincut
The pride of the Berkshires, now on your wall. Mountaincut's Butternut Ski Trail Map is a layered wooden wall art piece featuring hand-traced ski trails expertly laser cut from premium birch and/or walnut plywood, a handcrafted tribute to the family-owned Great Barrington mountain that has been introducing New England families to skiing for more than sixty years.
Western Massachusetts' Family Classic, Captured in Wood
Set on Warner Mountain in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, in the heart of the southern Berkshires, Ski Butternut is an easy trip from Connecticut, New York City, and New Jersey, and just five minutes from the shops and restaurants of downtown Great Barrington. Channing and Jane Murdock took control of the area in 1963, naming it Butternut Basin after the large groves of butternut trees growing in the basin below the mountain, and their son Jeffrey took the reins in 1994, keeping it a genuine family operation. From a base of 820 feet to a summit of 1,800 feet, Butternut delivers a full 1,000-foot vertical drop across 110 acres, with 22 trails served by ten lifts including five quad chairs and four carpets. Snowmaking covers 100% of the terrain, and the grooming here has a reputation that far outstrips the mountain's size. This handcrafted map captures every trail in beautiful layered wood relief.
Every Trail, Every Park, Every Memory
Butternut's terrain breaks down to roughly 20% beginner, 60% intermediate, and 20% advanced, a spread that makes it one of the most welcoming and enjoyable family mountains in New England. A dedicated bunny hill with four conveyor lifts and its own beginner chairlift, paired with a large PSIA-affiliated Snowsports School, makes Butternut a genuinely great place to learn. From there, wide, beautifully groomed blue cruisers dominate the mountain, with the longest run winding from Pied Piper through Crosstown to Cruiser for a mile-and-a-half descent. Black diamond trails give stronger skiers a place to work on their edges without intimidation. Two terrain parks of varying difficulty, sculpted with the same care as the grooming, serve freestyle riders, and a seven-lane tubing center adds fun for the whole family. The atmosphere is exactly what keeps people coming back: friendly staff, reasonable prices, no fancy extras, and a relaxed, uncompetitive vibe that feels increasingly rare in modern skiing.
Exceptional Craftsmanship, Made in the USA
All Mountaincut wooden trail maps are precision laser cut and etched, hand-stained, and finished in the United States using birch and/or walnut plywood. The two-layer construction creates a rich, dimensional look where the mountain's ridgeline and trail network stand out in beautiful relief. Hanging hardware comes preinstalled, so your new trail map will be on display in minutes.
Because each piece is crafted from real wood, no two maps are exactly alike, with natural variations in the grain and stain giving every piece its own character, just like a fresh corduroy morning in the Berkshires.
