Set on Mount Fray in the Taconic Mountains, Catamount sits directly on the state line, with terrain in both Hillsdale, New York and South Egremont, Massachusetts, just 7.5 miles from Great Barrington and within easy reach of Albany, New York City, and Boston. Fray Mountain was first identified as a potential ski area by John "Jack" Falconer Fisher in 1937, and the mountain has been welcoming skiers ever since, making it one of the oldest continuously operating ski areas in the region. From a summit of 2,000 feet, Catamount delivers a full 1,000-foot vertical drop across 119 acres, with 44 trails served by eight lifts including two quads, three triples, and three surface lifts. Catamount is also home to one of the largest youth ski race programs in the Northeast, sending generations of Berkshire and Hudson Valley kids through gates every winter. One of the few remaining family-oriented ski areas in New England, Catamount now shares a Summit Pass with Berkshire East and Bousquet, and in the warmer months its treetop Aerial Adventure Park draws visitors year-round.
