Great Divide Ski Trail Map - Layered Wood Wall Art
by Mountaincut
Montana's sunniest ski area, now on your wall. Mountaincut's Great Divide Ski Trail Map is a layered wooden wall art piece featuring hand-traced ski trails expertly laser cut from premium birch and/or walnut plywood, a handcrafted tribute to the Helena-area mountain that has been a locally loved, affordable getaway since it opened as Belmont Ski Hill back in 1941.
Helena's Sunny Continental Divide Mountain, Captured in Wood
Set on Mount Belmont near Marysville, Montana, right along the Continental Divide about 25 miles northwest of Helena, Great Divide traces its roots to 1941, when the nonprofit Belmont Ski Club built the mountain's first trail for the 1942 Northern Rocky Mountain Ski Races. Kevin and Nyla Taylor purchased the area in 1985 and renamed it Great Divide, installing five new chairlifts over the following decades, including the Mt. Belmont Chair in 1986, before the Crawford and Moran families took over ownership in 2020. From a base of roughly 5,730 to 5,830 feet to a summit of 7,233 to 7,330 feet, the mountain delivers about 1,500 to 1,580 feet of vertical drop across 1,500 to 1,600 skiable acres, with 127 named trails spread across three mountain peaks and three distinct valleys, served by five chairlifts and a rope tow. This handcrafted map captures every peak, bowl, and valley in beautiful layered wood relief.
Every Peak, Every Bowl, Every Memory
Great Divide's terrain offers genuine variety across its three zones, with graceful long groomers, wide-open bowls, and beautifully spaced forest glades spread across the mountain. The Rawhide Gulch and Wild West sections, added as expansions off the main mountain, deliver more advanced, largely ungroomed terrain, with Wild West's own double chair serving a roughly even mix of intermediate and advanced trails ideal for those who love off-trail exploration. The main mountain balances beginner-friendly runs with plenty of intermediate cruising, and the free Backyard Beginner's Area gives first-timers a low-pressure place to start, alongside the All-Mountain Ski Team program for young racers ages 7 to 19. Powerful snowmaking allows Great Divide to routinely claim the title of the first ski area to open in Montana each season, often before Thanksgiving. Five terrain parks keep freestyle riders progressing, and Friday nights bring some of the most extensive night skiing of any mid-sized Montana resort, often paired with live music under the lights. The longest run stretches a full 3 miles from summit to base.
Exceptional Craftsmanship, Made in the USA
All Mountaincut wooden trail maps are precision laser cut and etched, hand-stained, and finished in the United States using birch and/or walnut plywood. The two-layer construction creates a rich, dimensional look where the mountain's peaks, bowls, and trail network stand out in beautiful relief. Hanging hardware comes preinstalled, so your new trail map will be on display in minutes.
Because each piece is crafted from real wood, no two maps are exactly alike, with natural variations in the grain and stain giving every piece its own character, just like a sunny bluebird morning above the Continental Divide.
The Perfect Gift for Great Divide Devotees
Whether you learned to ski in the Backyard Beginner's Area, explored the off-trail terrain of Wild West, cruised the full 3 miles back to base, spent your Friday nights under the lights with live music, or have been making the drive up from Helena season after season, this map is a lasting reminder of the mountain that keeps Montana skiing affordable and sunny.
