Set between the towns of West Dover and Wilmington, Vermont, sharing a ridge with neighboring <Mount Snow, Haystack Mountain first opened just before Christmas 1964 with 75 skiable acres and the ambitious slogan "Ski Haystack before everyone else does." After decades of financial ups and downs, and a closure in 2018 when the Vermont Tax Department shut the mountain down over unpaid taxes, a group of 182 founding members purchased the property at auction in 2020 for roughly 8 million dollars, reviving it as The Hermitage Club, Vermont's only private ski club. As of 2023, the club has been fully member-owned. Per the club's official site, Haystack Mountain offers 1,400 feet of vertical served by four lifts, including a heated, high-speed six-passenger bubble chairlift, plus a magic carpet in the novice area. Sitting on 1,400 total acres, with roughly 194 skiable acres, 28 acres of glades, and around 45 trails, this handcrafted map captures every trail across the Lower Mountain, Upper Mountain, and the legendary Witches in beautiful layered wood relief.

What makes Haystack truly unlike anywhere else, though, is the experience around the skiing: as a private club, members enjoy forty runs a day without a single lift line, cat skiing and snowmobiling on the mountain after the lifts close, snowcat rides to the summit Summit Cabin for cocktails at 3,200 feet, moonlit ski descents, and a Hayloft Lounge stocked with over 100 whiskeys.
