Perched on Glebe Mountain in Londonderry, Vermont, part of the legendary "Golden Triangle" alongside Stratton and Bromley, Magic Mountain is the kind of ski area that inspires devotion. Founded in 1960 by Swiss-born ski instructor and filmmaker Hans Thorner, who chose this mountain because its steep ridgelines and rugged topography reminded him of the Alps, Magic has stayed true to that original vision for over six decades. The trails he cut are naturally narrow, winding, and unapologetically steep - descending 1,500 heart-pumping vertical feet from a summit of 2,850 feet to a base of 1,350 feet. With 39 trails across 135 acres of skiable terrain, 11 named glades plus countless hidden lines through the trees, and just two summit chairlifts, the iconic 1971-vintage Red Chair double and the Black Chair quad, this handcrafted map captures every trail, every glade, and every secret line on one of skiing's most storied mountains.

The breakdown of 24% beginner, 32% intermediate, 18% advanced, and 26% expert only hints at the reality: Magic's blues would be blacks at many neighboring resorts, and its double-black diamonds exist in a category all their own. The top of Master Magician hits a super steep angle on the mountain, while Wizard, the traverse to the expert-only west side, quickly narrows into a steep, mogul-filled chute that separates the committed from the curious. The mountain's tree skiing is its defining feature: the most extensive glade network in southern Vermont, with 11 named glades on the map and countless more hidden lines that loyal locals have skied, named, and passed down for generations. For families and intermediate skiers, the east side delivers beautifully groomed corduroy on classics like Talisman, Sorcerer, and Hocus Pocus - trails with a classic Vermont feel that excite at every turn. Magic is open Thursday through Sunday and holidays, with special midweek powder day openings when six or more inches fall by dawn. Snowmaking currently covers roughly 50% of the terrain, while the expert runs are left to the whims of Mother Nature — exactly the way the community wants it.
