Spread across the sunny southeastern flank of 11,249-foot Mount Hood, roughly 67 miles east of Portland along Oregon Route 35, Mt. Hood Meadows is the largest ski resort on the mountain and one of the biggest in the state. Since welcoming its first skiers in December 1967, Meadows has grown into a 2,150-acre playground with 87 marked trails, 13 lifts including six high-speed express chairs, and a lift-served vertical drop of 2,777 feet from a summit elevation of 7,300 feet. Legendary Heather Canyon skis like an entirely separate ski area, with endlessly steep pitches of powder plunging into a spectacular canyon that patrollers open progressively during storm recovery. Clark Canyon, Private Reserve, the S&R Cliffs, and the double blacks off Shooting Star Ridge round out expert terrain that ranks among the best in Oregon, and the tree skiing below the ridgelines is widely considered the finest on Mount Hood. The longest run, from Heather Canyon down to Cascade, stretches 3.7 miles. Add five terrain parks with a superpipe and minipipe, 15 kilometres of groomed Nordic trails, and night skiing under the lights, and you have the most complete mountain experience in the state.
