Nub's Nob Ski Trail Map - Layered Wood Wall Art
by Mountaincut
Home of the Midwest's best snow, now on your wall. Mountaincut's Nub's Nob Ski Trail Map is a layered wooden wall art piece featuring hand-traced ski trails expertly laser cut from premium birch and/or walnut plywood, a handcrafted tribute to the Northern Michigan legend that has been winning grooming awards and skiers' hearts since 1958.
Northern Michigan's Skier's Mountain, Captured in Wood
Set in Pleasantview Township just north of Little Traverse Bay, minutes from the resort towns of Harbor Springs and Petoskey, Nub's Nob has been a Northern Michigan institution for nearly 70 years. The story starts in the mid-1950s, when Norman "Nubby" Sarns and his wife Dorie built a small ski hill to entertain friends and family, then moved it inland when the lakeside snow proved unreliable. It opened in 1958 with three trails and a single 65-seat chairlift. Today Nub's spans 248 acres across three separate peaks, with 53 runs, a 427-foot vertical drop from a summit of 1,338 feet, and 10 lifts including three quads and four triples. This handcrafted map captures every trail, every glade, and all three peaks in beautiful layered wood relief.
Every Trail, Every Glade, Every Memory
Nub's terrain breaks down to roughly 30% beginner, 50% intermediate, and 20% most difficult, with 15 easiest runs, 21 more difficult, 8 most difficult, and 9 expert-only trails including seven glades spread across the three peaks. Pintail Peak, opened in 1997 and hailed at the time as Michigan's best trail expansion in a decade, delivers 12 runs of quality terrain, while Powerline Glade holds the distinction of being Nub's first double black diamond. Nubs South is the beginner's home, with gentle terrain and extensive night skiing. Two award-winning terrain parks have earned Nub's the number one park ranking in Michigan and a top-three spot in the Midwest, and a purpose-built Race Arena now trains the next generation of competitive skiers on a model that has produced Olympic and FIS champions. But what Nub's is most famous for is the snow itself: 97% of the terrain is covered by 292 snow guns, with only the gladed tree runs left to nature, and the resort's grooming has been ranked among the best in North America. Ski Magazine named Nub's the number one day ski area in the Midwest, and skiers from Chicago and Detroit make the trip north every year knowing the corduroy will be flawless.
Exceptional Craftsmanship, Made in the USA
All Mountaincut wooden trail maps are precision laser cut and etched, hand-stained, and finished in the United States using birch and/or walnut plywood. The two-layer construction creates a rich, dimensional look where the resort's three peaks, glades, and trail network stand out in beautiful relief. Hanging hardware comes preinstalled, so your new trail map will be on display in minutes.
Because each piece is crafted from real wood, no two maps are exactly alike, with natural variations in the grain and stain giving every piece its own character, just like a perfect morning of Nub's corduroy through the northern hardwoods.
The Perfect Gift for Nub's Nob Devotees
Whether you learned to ski on Nubs South, chased fresh snow through the glades on Pintail Peak, spent your winters in the terrain park, raced in the Arena, or have been making the drive north from Chicago or Detroit every season for as long as you can remember, this map is a lasting reminder of the mountain where skiers come first and the staff treats you like family.
