Set on the northern slopes of Pleasant Mountain in Bridgton, Maine, on the western shores of Moose Pond and just 45 minutes from Portland and half an hour from North Conway, Pleasant Mountain first opened on January 23, 1938, making it the oldest major ski area in the state. Known as Shawnee Peak from 1988 until 2022, the resort had its historic original name restored by Boyne Resorts, who purchased it in 2021 and welcomed it alongside Sugarloaf and Sunday River. As the highest point in Cumberland County, Pleasant Mountain rises from a base of 600 feet to a summit of 1,900 feet, delivering a 1,300-foot vertical drop across 245 skiable acres, with 40 trails, 7 glades, three terrain parks, and 6 lifts spread across two base areas. From the summit, skiers and riders enjoy stunning views of the White Mountains of New Hampshire, including Mount Washington, and the Lakes Region of western Maine. The mountain's excellent snowmaking, covering 98% of the terrain, and top-notch grooming keep conditions consistent all winter long. A summit triple chair with an automatic conveyor loading system runs at high line speed to keep skiers moving, and seven glades plus three unique terrain parks give more adventurous skiers and freestyle riders plenty to explore. What truly sets Pleasant Mountain apart is its night skiing: with 19 to 23 trails lit after dark, it is one of the largest night-skiing operations in New England, perfect for after-work laps under the lights. When the day is done, Blizzard's Pub upstairs delivers a lively, slopeview après-ski scene with live entertainment, cold drinks, and famous nachos.
