Set in Warrington Township, York County, Pennsylvania, just north of Baltimore, Roundtop Mountain Resort traces its roots back to 1964, when a skier named Irvin Naylor, who loved the sport but didn't want to travel far to enjoy it, purchased land here and founded what became Ski Roundtop and the Snow Time company. From a base of 740 to 755 feet to a summit of 1,335 to 1,355 feet, Roundtop delivers a 600-foot vertical drop across 103 acres, with 21 to 22 trails served by nine lifts, including three quad chairs, two triple chairs, a J-bar, and two magic carpets. With 100% snowmaking and 95% of the terrain lit for night skiing seven nights a week, Roundtop has proudly earned the nickname "The Fun Mountain" over more than 60 years of operation. Roundtop's terrain breaks down to roughly 29% easier, 30% more difficult, 31% most difficult, and 10% extremely difficult, giving skiers of every level plenty to work with. What sets Roundtop apart from many of its Mid-Atlantic neighbors is character: instead of the straight-down-the-fall-line slopes common at other regional resorts, many of Roundtop's trails wind and curve their way down the mountain, adding genuine variety to every run. Beginners find a comfortable start on Powderhorn, Drummer Boy, and Fanny Hill, while more difficult terrain like Lower Lafayette's Leap, Minuteman, and Susquehanna gives intermediates room to build confidence. Two terrain parks and a halfpipe serve freestyle skiers and riders of every level, and the resort's large tubing area, complete with its own covered magic carpet, nine long lanes, and its own lodge, has made Roundtop one of the pioneers of snow tubing in the region. The rustic, unhurried character here, without a single high-speed lift, draws a genuinely local, community-oriented crowd, and the Fireside Pub & Grill offers table service dining with a view of the slopes after a day on the hill.
