Purchased in 1984 by Earl Holding, the same family behind Sun Valley, the resort underwent a world-class transformation ahead of the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Games, adding three luxurious timber lodges and Utah's most advanced lift system, including two gondolas and a tram. Land exchanged with the U.S. Forest Service in 2000 doubled Snowbasin's size, expanding terrain into Allen Peak, Strawberry Peak, and DeMoisy Peak. From a base of 6,400 feet to a summit of 9,350 feet, Snowbasin delivers a 2,950-foot vertical drop across roughly 3,000 acres spanning six distinct peaks and two open bowls, with over 100 trails served by eleven lifts. Four progressive terrain parks, a superpipe, a tubing hill, and 26-plus miles of connecting trails round out a resort that manages to feel both grand and genuinely uncrowded.
