Set overlooking the Otisco Valley in Tully, New York, just off Interstate 81 and 30 minutes south of Syracuse, Song Mountain has operated continuously since it was founded by the Chapman family in 1961. From a base area spread across 100 acres to a summit of 1,940 feet, Song delivers a 700-foot vertical drop, with 24 trails, roughly half beginner and half intermediate to advanced, served by five lifts. Facing northeast, Song holds its snow longer than some of its neighbors and often catches the benefit of Central New York's early-season lake effect snow, averaging around 125 inches a year with 75% snowmaking coverage. With 75% of the mountain lit, Song is a genuine night skiing destination, open for evening turns Tuesday through Friday. Every Trail, Every Turn, Every Memory
Song's base area spreads out with the majority of its lifts centrally located, and skiers riding Lifts C, D, or E catch a view of the southern tip of Otisco Lake on the way up. To skier's left, below the main lifts, long black diamonds stretch the full vertical of the mountain; to skier's right, blues and greens wind their way down toward Lift A. Off the T-bar sits Song's most challenging terrain: Otto's at 22 degrees and Jupiter at 28 degrees, both holding a consistent pitch the entire length of the trail, with Jupiter often lined with moguls where local racers can be found punching gates on weekends. Beyond Jupiter, steep tree skiing over 30 degrees rewards those looking for a real challenge. Song merged operations with neighboring Labrador Mountain in 2014 to form the SkiCNY network, giving a single pass access to both mountains. The mountain also carries a genuine piece of Olympic history: former Olympic medalist Jimmie Heuga served as ski school director during the 1968-69 season, and the base lodge restaurant still carries his name today.
