The rename followed extensive research and consultation with the local Washoe Tribe after resort leadership determined the word "squaw" had become a derogatory and offensive term for Native American women, a decision made, in the resort's words, so future generations would never have to use a slur to identify the place where they chase their dreams down the mountain.
