Set in Queensbury, New York, just outside the Adirondack Park and two miles west of Exit 18 off I-87, West Mountain has been the local hill for the Glens Falls region since it opened in 1961. From a base of 460 feet to a summit of 1,470 feet, West Mountain delivers a 1,010-foot vertical drop across roughly 126 to 130 acres, with 29 to 35 trails, including five ungrouped glades, served by five to eight lifts, including a quad and multiple triple chairs. With 85 to 100% snowmaking and extensive night skiing, West Mountain has seen significant investment over the past decade for a small independent mountain, replacing much of its lift fleet with newer quads and triples. West Mountain's terrain runs the full range from easy green learning slopes to challenging black diamond runs and glades, with a longest descent stretching 1.4 miles. West Mountain is especially known for its strong youth ski racing program, whose athletes have captured podium finishes and victories in both regional Eastern Division races and international FIS-sanctioned events across Canada and the United States. Two terrain parks with rails, jumps, and a halfpipe serve freestyle riders of every level, and a ten-chute tubing park near the Main Lodge adds family fun for non-skiers. The mountain is also famous locally for its Business Man's Lunch Special, a $35 ticket good for two hours of skiing and lunch, a longtime West Mountain tradition. In the warmer months, the West Express Summit Chairlift carries visitors to an Aerial Adventure Park with six zipline and treetop courses, hiking trails, and sweeping views of the Hudson River and the Adirondacks, making West Mountain a genuine year-round destination.
