Set on Two Top Mountain in the Bear Pond and Tuscarora Mountains of south-central Pennsylvania, between Mercersburg and Clear Spring, Maryland, Whitetail Resort opened in 1991 as the second-closest ski resort to Washington, D.C. and the third-closest to Baltimore, behind sister resorts Liberty Mountain and Ski Roundtop. From a base elevation of 865 feet to a summit of 1,800 feet, Whitetail delivers a 935-foot vertical drop across 108 to 120 acres, with 22 trails served by eight lifts, including a high-speed quad, three additional quad lifts, a double, and two surface lifts. Whitetail's trail system was purposefully designed to separate skiers of different ability levels, with dedicated first-time, beginner, intermediate, and advanced zones lined up in sequence across the mountain, each fed by its own lift. With 100% snowmaking and night skiing covering 95% of the terrain, this handcrafted map captures every trail and zone in beautiful layered wood relief.

Whitetail's terrain breaks down to roughly 27-30% beginner, 44-50% intermediate, and 16-18% advanced, with a well-organized layout that makes it easy for skiers to find their level right from the base. The longest run, Limelight, stretches nearly a mile, offering a satisfying top-to-bottom cruise for intermediates. For those chasing more of a challenge, the expert chair accesses Bold Decision, Drop-In, Exhibition, and Farside, delivering genuine steeps within a compact footprint. Up to three terrain parks, including a halfpipe, grow and evolve throughout the season with fresh features for freestyle riders of every level. A snow tubing park runs alongside the ski hill, and the modern base lodge offers free ski check, dining at the Trailside Grille and Solstice Restaurant, and drinks at the Daybreak Tavern. Because of its convenient location, Whitetail draws serious weekend and holiday crowds from the D.C.-Baltimore corridor, but on quieter non-holiday weekdays, the slopes open right up.
