Set in the town of Windham, New York, just off Route 23 and only 23 miles from the New York State Thruway, roughly 2.5 hours north of New York City, Windham Mountain opened its slopes in 1960 as Cave Mountain Ski Area. In 1997, lights installed on several lower trails made Windham the only mountain in the Catskills to offer night skiing, and the resort has continued investing ever since, adding a high-speed quad in 1993, new trails and lift upgrades in 2006 and 2013, and a full rebrand to Windham Mountain Club in 2023 under new ownership. From a base of 1,500 feet to a summit of 3,100 feet, Windham delivers a 1,600-foot vertical drop across 285 skiable acres, with 54 trails spread across two peaks and served by 11 to 12 lifts, including a high-speed six-passenger chair and multiple high-speed quads. Windham's terrain breaks down to roughly 20% novice, 48% intermediate, 19% advanced, and 13% expert, and its two peaks each bring their own character to a mountain popular with the upscale NY/NJ/CT metro crowd. West Peak, the easiest to access from base to summit via high-speed quad and triple chairs, holds most of the resort's beginner and intermediate terrain along with several terrain parks and extended night skiing hours during peak season. East Peak, topping out just fifty feet higher, is home to Windham's black diamond runs, which hold a consistent pitch throughout and ski well whether groomed or left bumped, opening later in the day and tending to catch and hold some of the best snow at the resort. The longest run stretches 2.37 miles, and six terrain parks give freestyle riders room to progress at every level. Beyond the slopes, Windham offers an outdoor ice rink, snow tubing, and a cross-country and snowshoe center, along with ongoing investment in a country club, luxury spa, and expanded lodging that continue to shape the resort's evolution into a true four-season, membership-driven mountain destination.
