Set just west of the Continental Divide about 67 miles from Denver, Winter Park officially opened in 1940 and remains Colorado's longest continuously operated ski resort. The mountain's second peak carries a colorful history: in the 1930s, the Colorado Arlberg Club cut the first man-made ski trail in the state on land once owned by a woman named Mary Jane, naming the trail in her honor. Mary Jane joined Winter Park as an official part of the resort in 1975, expanding the terrain by 80% overnight. From a base of 9,000 feet to a summit of 12,060 feet, Winter Park delivers 3,060 feet of vertical rise across 3,081 acres, with 166 to 171 trails served by 23 lifts, including three high-speed six-packs, a ten-person gondola, and six high-speed quads. Vasquez Ridge, reached by the Pioneer Express, offers wide-open cruisers like Stagecoach and Sundance alongside short, punchy bump runs. And above it all, Parsenn Bowl and Vasquez Cirque open up hundreds of acres of above-treeline glades and backcountry-style terrain, with the Eagle Wind lift providing some of the best tree skiing in the country on the way back down. Seven terrain parks, including the nationally renowned Railyard Freeride Park, round out the offering, and the National Sports Center for the Disabled calls Winter Park home.
