Set in Westernville, New York, just north of Rome and about 15 miles northwest of Utica, overlooking Delta Lake and the Black River, Woods Valley Ski Area has operated continuously since 1964 and remains privately owned by the Woods family to this day. From a base to a 500-foot vertical drop, Woods Valley offers 21 to 25 acres of skiable terrain across 21 trails, served by five lifts, including two double chairs, a main chair, and a T-bar that spins in parallel on busy weekends to keep lift lines short. With state-of-the-art snowmaking and nightly grooming, plus four terrain parks and new gladed areas added in recent seasons, this handcrafted map captures every trail across the mountain in beautiful layered wood relief.

Woods Valley has invested heavily in its beginner terrain, and it shows: the Easy Acres learning area is thoughtfully laid out for progressing straight from the Bunny Hill to the main chairlift, and skier's right off the main chair offers more gentle greens like Round About and Fly Away. Toward the center of the mountain, a ridge cuts through the slope, delivering higher-angle runs like Bowl, Peppers, and the Sting for those ready to push further, while Copy Cat and Timmy's stretch all the way from summit to base as the longest runs on the hill. Recent expansion has added genuine variety in the trees, too, with lower-angle glades like Freya's and Deer Glade perfect for getting acclimated to tree skiing, and the more demanding Valhalla, Valkyrie, and Rabbit Hole glades offering a bigger-mountain feel. A large tubing area with its own magic carpet gives non-skiers plenty to do, and the newly renovated lodge houses the Taproom 46 Bar, a cafeteria, a rental shop, and a full ski school, all the makings of a genuine community hill.
