Buckeye Trail Map - Wood Wall Art
by Mountaincut
The nation's longest loop trail, now on your wall. Mountaincut's Buckeye Trail Map is a layered wooden wall art piece featuring the full route of Ohio's legendary blue-blazed trail, expertly laser cut from premium birch and/or walnut plywood, a handcrafted tribute to the more than 1,400-mile loop that winds through every corner of the Buckeye State.
Forty-Seven Counties, One Continuous Loop, Captured in Wood
Stretching more than 1,400 miles in a single continuous loop, the Buckeye Trail is the longest loop hiking trail in the United States, winding through 47 of Ohio's 88 counties and passing within 90 minutes of every Ohioan. Founded in 1959 and maintained ever since by the nonprofit Buckeye Trail Association and hundreds of dedicated volunteers, the trail is marked end to end by its iconic blue blazes, connecting more than 100 towns and villages, working farmland, deep forests, historic landmarks, and scenic riverways. Along the way it passes through Hocking Hills, the Ohio and Erie Canal, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and the Wayne National Forest. The Buckeye Trail also proudly hosts stretches of two national trails, carrying roughly 900 miles of the North Country National Scenic Trail and a portion of the coast-to-coast American Discovery Trail. This handcrafted map captures the trail's entire loop, county by county, in beautiful layered wood relief.
Every County, Every Mile, Every Memory
The Buckeye Trail was founded with the help of Emma "Grandma" Gatewood, the legendary Ohio hiker who, at age 67, became the first woman to solo thru-hike the Appalachian Trail, and who joined the Buckeye Trail's very first hike in 1959. That same pioneering spirit carries through today, with sections passing everywhere from the rugged sandstone cliffs of Hocking Hills to the quiet remnants of Ohio's coal-mining "Little Cities of Black Diamonds," where hillsides still bear the mounds of low-quality coal left behind by former mining operations. Thousands of hikers explore the trail every year, from short afternoon walks through Cuyahoga Valley National Park to multi-week backpacking trips along the 250-mile Little Loop segment, to full thru-hikes of all 1,400-plus miles, a journey that typically takes months, though the current fastest known time stands at just over 55 days. The Buckeye Trail Association continues working toward National Scenic Trail designation for the route, a recognition that would place Ohio's own loop trail alongside the country's most celebrated long-distance footpaths.
Exceptional Craftsmanship, Made in the USA
All Mountaincut wooden maps are precision laser cut and etched, hand-stained, and finished in the United States using birch and/or walnut plywood. The layered construction creates a rich, dimensional look where the trail's full loop and the counties it winds through stand out in beautiful relief. Hanging hardware comes preinstalled, so your new map will be on display in minutes.
Because each piece is crafted from real wood, no two maps are exactly alike, with natural variations in the grain and stain giving every piece its own character, just like the trail itself.
The Perfect Gift for Buckeye Trail Hikers
Whether you completed a full thru-hike of all 1,400-plus miles, section-hiked your way through Hocking Hills or Cuyahoga Valley, volunteer with the Buckeye Trail Association to help maintain the blue blazes, or simply love exploring Ohio one county at a time, this map is a lasting reminder of the nation's longest loop trail. It makes a genuinely meaningful gift for a hiker celebrating a finished section or thru-hike, or anyone who counts the Buckeye Trail among their favorite ways to explore the state.
