Stretching 2,650 miles from just south of Campo, California, at the Mexican border, to Manning Park, British Columbia, at the Canadian border, the Pacific Crest Trail was authorized by Congress in 1968 and completed as a continuous footpath in 1993. Following the crests of the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Range through California, Oregon, and Washington, the trail passes through seven national parks, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Yosemite, Lassen Volcanic, Crater Lake, Mount Rainier, and North Cascades, along with dozens of wilderness areas and national forests. Completing the PCT, alongside the Appalachian Trail and Continental Divide Trail, earns a hiker the rare distinction of the Triple Crown of American long-distance hiking.
