About Us

Mountaincut was created from a love of mountains and of skiing and snowboarding.

Mountaincut creator Gary Looft, always had a thing for maps and, being a snowboarder, had a collection of trail maps from previous trips. Being passionate about mountains and riding them, he began creating his stylized vision of his favorite trail maps as posters he began selling on Etsy. He found that there was definitely plenty of people that loved their mountains as much as he did.

In 2017, Gary discovered the magic of laser cutters and got the idea of laser cut wooden trail maps and began designing and creating prototypes of wooden trail maps of Whiteface Mountain in New York. After laser cutting many sheets of plywood, many quarts of spilled stain, and many bad ideas explored and crossed off the list, Gary eventually designed the Mountaincut Trail Map you see on this website.

There were many long days and nights of designing the trail maps of dozens of ski resorts throughout North America. We hope you find your favorite mountain here and if you don't, please drop us a line and we will do our best to get it done for you. We now have over 150 ski areas throughout North America and hope to add many more.

A family business

Mountaincut is owned and operated by the Looft family. Gary, along with wife, Erin, and sons, Max and Oskar, do all of the cutting, sanding, polishing, staining, packing and shipping. We take pride in being an independent business and in our products.
